The unique appeal of Zarah jewelry can be attributed to two factors - fresh designs and excellent craftmanship. These earrings were created in the plique-a-jour style. Plique-a-jour enamel is a variety of cloisonne enamel, but without metals base. The technique was named due to the resemblance of the enamel to stained glass as the translucent coloured enamel in the cells of metal ridges looks like stained glass framed by metal. In this technique openwork cells are filled with differently coloured enamel. The cells are made by cutting out metal or by mounting and soldering filigree wire. The metal framework is mostly made of gold, silver and copper.
